You can do it!

Let’s just start there.

You can find the positive parenting obstacles in your life, and you can overcome them!

How do I know?

Because I believe that you love your kids and want the best for them, and honestly, I believe that means you can do anything.

But more importantly, I know because I’ve seen it done.

I’ve seen parents in all kinds of trying situations pull it together and make peaceful, respectful, positive parenting work.

You can do it!

Overcoming your positive parenting obstacles can be done in 4 steps, but, not gonna lie - it probably won't be easy.

The Four Steps to Overcoming Positive Parenting Obstacles

  • First, you have to make that decision. That wholehearted, absolute commitment. If you are still on the fence, it’s not going to work.
  • Third, you have to systematically identify the positive parenting obstacles unique to your situation. This sometimes requires brutal honesty, and it can seem tedious. But it gets easier the more you work through it.
  • Fourth, you have to research, soul-search, and get help addressing your personal obstacles. This is also hard, but the information and help you need is out there in the world or is inside yourself. You can find it.

60 Days to Positive Parenting is my crash course for parents ready to make an immediate and lasting change to a joyful, cooperative, respectful relationship with your kids. Learn more here about doing the work to become a positive parent.

Your Personal Positive Parenting Obstacles

For that third step, what kind of obstacles are we talking about?

  • Baggage from your childhood over how you were parented.
  • The influences of negative parents in your life.
  • Work-related stress that leaves you with a short fuse.
  • Financial worries.
  • Life changes like moving homes or jobs.
  • Stressful intimate relationships.
  • Physical or mental illness.
  • Past actions in your relationship with your child.
  • A lack of planning or time to give to planning.
  • Unrealistic expectations.

Any of these can be very serious. I personally deal with my own childhood baggage and my mental illness. I don’t want to give you the impression that I think overcoming positive parenting obstacles is easy or trivial! You might have very serious issues and concerns that make your positive parenting a struggle for you. But I’ll repeat myself:

You can do it!

It’s worth it. You deserve it. Your kids deserve it.

Overcoming your positive parenting obstacles can be done in 4 steps, but, not gonna lie - it probably won't be easy.
